Trainingority Training Program in Cancer Control Research

California State University, Fullerton is one of seven universities in Southern California that participates in recruitment for the annual Minority Training Program in Cancer Control Research (MTPCCR), funded by the National Cancer Institute (grant #CA78583-04).  Minority students in a master’s level health program or having obtained a masters degree are eligible to apply to participate in an annual training program to learn more about the disparities in cancer for ethnic and racial populations.  The MTPCCR consists of three components:

Summer Institute: A five-day Summer Institute at UCLA or UCSF that showcases the opportunities and need for minority researchers in cancer control.  The emphasis is on students or professionals who have an interest in pursuing a doctoral degree, and a total of 25-30 participants will acquire the motivation, skills, and resources to apply to a doctoral program.

  1. Student internships: Summer Institute participants can apply for paid research internships with faculty mentors to learn first-hand about the conduct of cancer disparities studies in ethnic/racial populations.
  2. Doctoral Application Support Awards: Summer Institute participants who wish to pursue a doctorate in a field that could lead to a career in cancer research are eligible to apply for awards up to $2,000 to cover the cost of doctoral program applications, testing and/or campus visits.

Applications for the 2008 MTPCCR program are due by Monday, February 25, 2008.  For more information on the program and application process, please contact Dr. Sora Park Tanjasiri (stanjasiri@fullerton.edu).
